KATHRYN FERGUSON

PROFILE

Internationally renowned dancer, choreographer and teacher

Kathryn Ferguson captures the power and soul of Oriental dance.

She inspires dance students and cabaret audiences in North America, Europe, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand.

Miss Ferguson's unforgettable style blends classical elegance, strict adherence to traditional Mideastern technique, and subtle interpretations of music and its "silences." Combining technical skill with her captivating stage presence, Kathryn is able to impart intimate feelings to her audience through movement. Reviewers have described her dancing as having "natural dynamism" and "sensuous vibrancy."

Two award winning films featuring American Modern Dance companies have resulted from Kathryn's energy and creative talents (as creator/producer and as assistant director, respectively). These works have been presented on American television and in European festivals.

At her Tucson, Arizona based Xanadu Dance Studio, Kathryn teaches group and private classes in all levels of Oriental dance, emphasizing movement technique, hearing and understanding of music, and - for professional dancers - expressivity in performance.

Kathryn's instructional Oriental dance DVD/video
Mideastern Dance: an Introduction to Bellydance
has become a video classic that is respected and recommended by teachers, performers and students around the world. Produced by Bastet Productions, it is one of the few Oriental dance videos ever to have won a major film festival award.
